Marion Roose Pullin Arizona Opera Studio Member

American tenor Cameron Schutza is pleased to return to Arizona Opera as a member of the 2010-2011 Marion Roose Pullin Studio. His assignments include Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen, The Prince of Persia in Puccini’s Turandot and Rodrigo in Verdi’s Otello. In addition he will cover the role of Frederic in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance and Belmonte in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Recently, Mr. Schutza appeared with The Green Mountain Opera Festival as Arturo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor while covering the role of Edgardo. During the 2009-2010 season he joined Arizona Operas Marion Roose Pullin Studio where he performed Fourth Jew in Salome, Parpignol in La Boheme, the Notary in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and covered Narraboth in Salome, Rudolfo in La Boheme, and Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, as well as presented several concerts and recitals. In the summer of 2008 Mr. Schutza returned to The Santa Fe Opera as an Apprentice Singer where he was seen in performances of Verdi’s Falstaff, Britten’s Billy Budd, the North American premier of Saariaho’s Adriana Mater and as Don José in the finale of Bizet’s Carmen. For the 2007-2008 season he was a Resident Artist with Palm Beach Opera and appeared in performances of Beethoven’s Fidelio (Jaquino), Verdi’s La Traviata (Giuseppe) and covered the roles of Pong and Calaf (Turandot) and Alfredo (La Traviata). Also during the 2007-2008 season Mr. Schutza made his Houston Grand Opera debut where he sang the role of Amelia’s Servant in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera and A Peasant in Donizetti’s La Fille du Regiment. During the summer of 2007 he was an Apprentice Singer at The Santa Fe Opera where he was seen in performances of La Boheme, Daphne by Strauss, and Platee by Rameau. He was also seen as Sam Polk in scenes from Floyd’s Susannah. Mr. Schutza has performed roles ranging from Montiverdi’s Arnalta (L’Incornazione di Poppea) to Diabolo Uno in the United States premier of Cortez’s  Las Tentaciones de San Antonio. In 2006 he made his debut with Opera in the Heights (Houston) as Pollione in Bellini’s Norma. He has also performed with the Austrian American Mozart Academy in both the United States and Salzburg in roles ranging from Alfred (Die Fledermaus) to the title role in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito.   Other performances include the title role in Offenbach’s les Contes d’Hoffmann, Tamino and Monastatos from Mozart’s (Die Zauberflöte), Mayor Upford (Albert Herring), and Count Belfiore from Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera.
